Monthly Suunto Update – October 2018

This month the main news is the Suunto bait and switch I mentioned recently where Suunto have been naughty and got reviews for their Suunto 9 Baro but all the reviewers thought it was called Suunto 9. There now is a Suunto 9 and it’s not what was reviewed, and also we’re back to Suunto’s ridiculous naming schemes which makes it so hard to buy a watch I actually gave up and bought a Garmin. Sigh.

Suunto Update

Suunto have just released the 9 and we already had the fitness 3. We can therefore “confidently” predict at least a 5 and 7 to be released over the coming year. This may also turn out to be 17 versions of the “Suunto 9” with ever increasing length names. They may also gradually move the name Suunto 9 down the range and rename the existing devices. Again. With this in mind I’d be wary of any of the Spartan models and recommending thorough checks on what you’ll receive if you see a bargain. They are good devices though, and are currently current and a reasonable alternative to the Garmin monopoly. I must also apologise as these have been marked as red recently rather than orange – not on purpose. The red I use is called “orangered” and therefore easy mistake to make. Spartan is definitely still a “buy if low cost” type thing or if you need a watch now. Just know that there are new models coming very soon.
