|Recommendation:||Buy the Swim, Swim 2 is unlikely to appear|
At this point, I’m not expecting a Swim 2. If there is then CES 2016 seems most likely but realistically just look at the other watches if you need a swim watch right now.

- Bluetooth uploads
- HRM-Swim support
- Swim workouts
- Bluetooth sensor support
OK, so this little unloved product is well overdue an update. It doesn’t support the swimming HR straps, doesn’t have GPS, doesn’t do bluetooth uploads, doesn’t have ConnectIQ. Unfortunately, swimmers don’t tend to need this kind of training tool, they tend to use the wall clock to do repeats or a stopwatch to time themselves. It’s a shame, because a modernised version would be a nice addition to the range. In theory one of the fitness trackers or VivoActive may take its place in the cheap swim watch market while at the high end the 920XT and Fenix 3 have this covered very well. While it’s possible Garmin may surprise us at CES in 2016 I wouldn’t hold my breath and wait for this one.
[Jan 2016] Well, here’s a turn up for the books. Garmin have just added swim support to their workout creator on Garmin Connect. In theory this might signal a Swim 2, although I’m still not holding my breath. With this and the HRM-Swim Garmin are definitely taking swimming more seriously but given the price point of the other watches in the Garmin range I don’t see a good way to bring a swim only device in without making it very cheap.
