Opinion

I think there may be an optical option when the 930XT launches. Quite a few people are asking for one, and the running only watches have done this. Unfortunately the new Running Dynamics don’t work without the pod so don’t expect full features without the good old strap, even if it’s the comfy new strap.

With the new Fenix Chronos finally sorting out the bump on the optical HR it’s more likely that the 930XT will get a FR935XT variant with optical HR at the very least, if not rolled into the whole range.

  1. Lukasz says:

Forerunner 920XT is a typical multi-sport watch – read triathlon. This is the watch that is designed to support IronMan races – that is up to 17 hours of GPS signal recording.
Adding an optical HR sensor will surly affect the battery performance – if is not gonna last up 17h – it ain’t gonna fly for many potencial users.
Additionally for those that train/run in cold condition in winter will wear the watch over the long sleeve shirt/jacket. Optical HR is useless in this case.

  2. the5krunner says:

i agree with your comment @Lukasz. Nevertheless I can send you ‘proof’ that there will be a 935. bizarre I I know (with oHR turned off battery life will be fine)

    • john hot sauce says:

What “proof” of a 935xt? Garmin has denied this product is coming to market and with the existence of a 735xt, that would compeletely negate the potential buyers of a product that was just launched. Releasing a more capable 935xt product would render the 735xt useless.

    • Burto says:

@the5krunner when do you expect the release to happen? You said you have proof? How so? I am swapping my suunto sport for a Garmin. Was keen on the 735 but if the 930 is actually going to happen and will have OHR I will be very keen!

      • the5krunner says:

I can only speculate Q1.2017 before the tri season. I wont be 2016. I have evidence of the existence of a 935, perhaps ‘evidence’ would be a better word :-). I have zero proof of a release date.

  3. Gabe says:

what is a 935xt? 930xt i get based on their previous releases

  4. WaterlooRacer says:

Gabe: The 935xt would have wrist HR vs. 930xt would not.

    John Hot Sauce:

735xt was released now, it’s selling well. Because it’s a great watch.

935xt will be released in 2017, 735xt will be priced down.
935xt and 735xt will co-exist, 935xt will be the more superior, newer, bigger, more features and more expensive multi sport watch.

  5. Sherry says:

Dear Garmin: Why even bother with an upgrade of the 920xt to 930/35xt if you don’t include improvements to the screen, it’s brightness/readability, and color rendering? Alert sounds should also be louder in any upgrade that replaces the 920xt.

  6. Frenchman100 says:

Dear garmin please add bluettoth headphones and music capabilities..carrying a stupid phone while running just to listen yo music is outright sacrilegious !!!!
